Stockport County will hope to return to winning ways this Saturday as they take on Telford United at Edgeley Park.
The Hatters were defeated in an entertaining match at Aggborough against Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday, but a victory on Saturday would consolidate their play-off place with only three games remaining.
Only 14 years ago, Telford United FC were liquidated with debts of £4 million after finishing 12th in the Conference North. Fortunately, the newly reformed AFC Telford United, which started life in the Evo-Stik Northern Division 1 (Tier 8), took to their new life like a duck to water and made it to the National League Premier only four years ago.
Disappointingly, their position in the country’s top division of non league only lasted one season and they have been struggling in the NLN for the past two seasons. Finishing 18th in 2016 and 17th in 2017 after a succession of managers and players. This year, they sit just outside the relegation spots after another difficult season but came away with an important victory on Thursday night after defeating Leamington to pull clear of the drop zone.
Sam Minihan could miss out again after injury kept him out of Tuesday’s side. In defence, the winning partnership of Jamie Stott and Michael Clarke will most likely continue to feature although Chris Smalley will be hoping to make his first appearance in over a month after returning to the bench recently following his injury.
Sam Walker could also feature in the matchday squad for the first time since January, his loan spell at Curzon Ashton finishes this week and Gannon may utilise the former Salford midfielder who has had an impressive spell at the Tameside club.
Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Road, Stockport, SK3 9DD.
Admission for the match will cost supporters £15/£10/£5 with pay-on-the-gate available for both home and away fans. The game will be a busy one, so arriving early is recommended by the club.
