1 – Hatters earn FA Trophy replay with Maidenhead draw
Matty Warburton’s early strike was enough to earn the Hatters a draw in a well-contested FA Trophy match at Maidenhead United’s York Road on Saturday. The Magpies, who went up as champions from the National League South last year, hit back in the second half thanks to a Ryan Upward volley to earn themselves a replay at Edgeley Park this Tuesday.
2 – And it’s familiar opposition in the last eight
On the subject of the FA Trophy, it’ll be a fellow National League North club in the quarter finals if we can overcome Maidenhead in the replay, where we’ve been drawn at home against Brackley Town. That game would be played on 24th February at Edgeley Park.
3 – Mckenna leaves for Curzon Ashton
Ben Mckenna this week left the Stockport County, having ended his weekly contract with the club. The former Southport midfielder had struggled to break his way into the team post-Christmas and has now joined near-neighbours Curzon Ashton in the hope of more game time at National League North level.
4 – Rumours of new owners
A quote from Jon Keighren has seemingly lit the fire for potential takeover talk, with the County director stating that there is ‘interest in the club’ and the current board are just around the corner from being able to hand it on to deserving owners.
Hatters fans might be tired of takeover talk, but this input from Keighren is interesting and hopefully spells the way for some good news in the coming months.
5- A good Saturday for County’s play-off hopes
Two of County’s play-off rivals were in league action last weekend, and it was two good results as far as the Hatters are concerned. York City failed to beat Tamworth in a 1-1 draw, whilst Darlington beat Blyth Spartans 3-0 leaving the Hatters just three points behind the Green Army.
