Stockport County are in FA Trophy action again this weekend, as they visit Lancaster City in the first round of the competition.
Founded in 1911, Lancaster City currently sit one division below the Hatters in the Northern Premier League, having been promoted from division 1 in the previous season.
The Dolly Blues have spent the majority of their existence in the lower reaches of non-league, but had a relative period of success in the noughties as they performed well in the Conference North and FA Cup for a number of years. Unfortunately, administration curtailed their success and the club were relegated down to the Division 1 of the Evo-Stik leagues.
In the FA Trophy, the Dollies have had to win three games to reach the upcoming first round (as opposed to County’s one), and overcame Mildenhall Town 1-0 in the third qualifying round to set up a home tie with the Hatters at the weekend.
County manager Jim Gannon will likely name a strong team again, as he looks to build momentum with the side that has lost only one of the previous seven matches. Although a fixture against lower-league opposition may provide an opportunity for fringe players like George West, Adam Etches and Harry Brazel to make a claim for the first team.
At the back, Michael Clarke and Chris Smalley will hope to continue their partnership whilst Scott Duxbury will aim to replace Stephen O’Halloran at left-back having been an unused substitute against Spennymoor. Darren Stephenson, Ben McKenna and Kalum Mantack will all be vying for a place supporting the prolific Jason Oswell up top.
The match will take place at the strangely named Giant Axe Stadium, a 3,500 capacity venue with terracing on three sides.
Address: Giant Axe, West Road, Lancaster, Lancashire LA1 5PE
There will be cash turnstiles available and admission will cost: £8/£6/£4/£2 with under 10’s going free with a paying adult.
