Stockport County will hope to put last week’s defeat to Brackley behind them, as they look to secure their first win at Edgeley Park in three games vs Spennymoor Town FC.
Whilst Spennymoor Town have only been around for 12 years, the club have existed in some way, shape or form since 1931, when the North East side played under the name of Evenwood Town FC. It was only in 2005 that Evenwood merged with Spennymoor United and collectively changed their name to Town following that point.
Since the name change twelve years ago, The Moors have seen a steady rise through non-league culminating in their highest ever finish last season to ensure promotion through to the sixth tier of English football, overseen by manager Jason Ainsley.
Their first game in the National League, which was coincidentally against the Hatters, ended in a historic 1-0 win for the North East side and the club have not looked back since that day. They currently sit 5th place in the NLN although suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Leamington in their last league match.
Matty Warburton will miss out, with Jim Gannon confirming the striker suffered some ligament damage in the defeat at Brackley last weekend. That could provide a starting position to Sam Walker, Harry Winter or Darren Stephenson, who have all missed out on starting XI positions in recent weeks.
Michael Clarke could return to the side after only making the bench against Brackley, but Chris Smalley will be hoping to keep his place in the side after two impressive performances against Southport and Brackley in the previous 10 days.
The game will be played at Edgeley Park with the Main Stand, Cheadle End and Pop Side open to supporters.
Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Road, Stockport, SK3 9DD.
Admission for the game will cost County fans £15/£10/£5 with pay-on-the-gate available.
If you aren’t lucky enough to attend the game, Imagine FM will have commentary of the game on 104.9FM.
