It appears that lots of Stockport County supporters have turned on manager Jim Gannon over the past couple of weeks, following a string of disappointing results in the league. But does this mean that Gannon, who is in his third spell as Hatters boss, should go?
All managers have bad spells and good spells, and admittedly Jim’s side appears to be going through the aforementioned ‘bad spell’, but should the County board go ahead and sack Gannon? In my opinion, no.
Take FC Halifax Town’s manager – Billy Heath, as an example. Back to back promotions with North Ferriby and then the Shaymen last season have put the Yorkshire side back in the National League Premier. But Billy’s struggles this year as he tries to keep his side in the division threatens to override his success, but this doesn’t make him a bad manager and it certainly doesn’t necessarily mean he should be sacked.
I believe this is similar to the Jim Gannon and Stockport County situation. Last season we were literally one goal from making the play-offs, nobody seemed to be calling for his head then!
So, before you write ‘Gannon Out’ on your respective social media sites, let’s think positive. Of course we’re all entitled to our opinions but I think we should be getting behind the manager regardless. Jim Gannon is the manager of Stockport County, and is the best man for the job.
