Stockport County will be hoping that it’s third time lucky as they look to secure their first victory of the season over FC United of Manchester at Edgeley Park this weekend.
After a roller-coaster twelve years since their controversial formation in 2005, FC United of Manchester have established themselves as a comfortable National League North side, and two 13th placed finishes since joining the division have testified to that. Couple this stability on the pitch with the brand-new Broadhurst Park stadium opening in 2015, and not many die-hard FCUM supporters have cause for complain.
This season, however, has been far from plain sailing for the Red Rebels and they currently find themselves in the relegation zone with just 14 points. Attendances are plummeting on last season and for the club, which is run by the supporters, there are testing times ahead as they struggle to retain their division six status.
Previously this season against County, United famously came back from 3-0 down at Edgeley Park to secure a replay before beating County in the replay, despite playing much of the game with only nine men.
Darren Stephenson could return to the match-day squad after making a comeback from his ankle injury against Cheadle Town in midweek. Whilst a number of other fringe players will hope to make the matchday XVI after impressing in the senior cup.
Ben Hinchliffe looks to start in net following Gannon’s decision to play Ormson in midweek, whilst Harry Winter will also hope to play a part against his former club despite being limited to substitute appearances since he returned from his injury.
The match will be played at Edgeley Park, with the Main Stand, Cheadle End and Popular Side open for home supporters. Away fans will be housed in the ‘Pop Side’ and Railway End.
Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Road, Stockport SK3 9DD
Admission for the match comes in at £15/£10/£5. Tickets are available on the gate but with a larger gate expected, the club are advising supporters to purchase in advance to avoid the inevitable queues.
If you aren’t lucky enough to attend the match, Imagine FM will have commentary of the game on 104.9.
