Stockport County host FC United in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round this Saturday, with the Hatters looking to progress to the fourth qualifying round for the second year in succession.
Jim Gannon will be hoping his side can secure a third straight victory, after successive home wins against Curzon Ashton and North Ferriby.
After a roller-coaster twelve years since their controversial formation in 2005, FC United of Manchester have established themselves as comfortable National League North side, and two 13th placed finishes since joining the division have testified to that. Couple this stability on the pitch with the brand-new Broadhurst Park stadium opening in 2015, and not many die-hard FCUM supporters have cause for complain.
This season, however, has been far from plain sailing for the Red Rebels and they currently find themselves in the relegation zone with just 10 points. Attendances are down on last season and for the club, which is run by the supporters, testing times are ahead as they struggle to retain their division six status.
In the FA Cup, United comfortably overcame ninth tier Handsworth Parramore in a replay, winning 6-2, after drawing 1-1 with the Sheffield-based club originally.
Michael Clarke could return to the match-day squad after suffering with a displaced patella, whilst Darren Stephenson will also hope to make a comeback following an ankle injury which has hampered him in recent weeks.
In midfield, Jimmy Ball could start after making his return from the bench against North Ferriby last weekend, whereas Captain Harry Winter will also hope to play a part against his former club, despite missing the previous four games with a minor knock.
The match will be played at Edgeley Park, with the Main Stand, Cheadle End and Popular Side open for home supporters. Away fans will be housed in the ‘Pop Side’ and Railway End.
Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Road, Stockport SK3 9DD
Admission for the match comes in at a reduced £10/£7/£3. Tickets are available on the gate but with a large gate expected, the club are advising supporters to purchase in advance to avoid queues.
If you aren’t lucky enough to attend the match, Imagine FM will have commentary of the game on 104.9.
