Two first half goals from York City were enough to sink County on a disappointing day in Yorkshire.
City looked stronger in the opening stages and went ahead after 16 minutes, with Simon Heslop drilling home a Sean Newton throw from six yards out.
Their lead was doubled soon after, with former Hatter Amari Morgan-Smith curling home a delightful strike from outside the area.
Two early changes at the back did not help the Hatters, with Minihan and Clarke being forced off injured before half-time.
County did have chances, Warburton having a goal ruled out for a foul whilst Jimmy Ball and Sam Walker had efforts saved by Worsnop in the second half.
A bright Adam Thomas introduction will have boosted County spirits but in reality, York never looked like losing. Alex Whittle could have added to his sides tally before the final whistle but the game ended in a deserved 2-0 victory for the Minstermen.
