PREVIEW: County welcome Sandgrounders to Edgeley Park

After the disappointment of the draw to Bradford Park Avenue at the weekend, County go again in search of a victory when they host high-flying Southport, who return to Edgeley Park for the first time in five years.

The Opposition:

Formed in 1881, Southport are one of the division’s oldest clubs. The Sandgrounders were members of the football league until 1978, whereby coincidentally they were the last club to get relegated through the re-election method. Since the seventies, the club have remained a semi-professional non-league club (apart from a two year spell as a professional club in 2006-2008).

This season, the club have started well and sit three points and two places off the top spot. They bounced back from a disappointing 2-1 loss at Salford to beat Darlington 2-0 and go into the game against the Hatters with an impressive 17 points.

Team news:

Gannon may look to rotate his squad again after the disappointing draw against Bradford Park Avenue at the weekend. Gary Stopforth could feature again from the bench whilst Jason Oswell will be looking to continue his goal-a-game ratio upfront.

Stephen O’Halloran did not make the bench at the weekend but is nearing a return, Ben McKenna will also hope to make the match-day squad after missing the last two games.

The match will be played at Edgeley Park, with the Main Stand, Cheadle End and Popular Side open for home supporters and the Pop Side allocated for away fans.

Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Road, Stockport SK3 9DD

Entry to the ground will cost £15, £10 or £5.

As usual, imagine FM will be commentating on the game via County Player or 104.9fm. Alternatively social media updates will be available on Twitter and Facebook.
