County gave Championship side Preston North End a stern test at Edgeley Park, losing 2-1 to the Lancashire outfit.
County for their part, held their own in the opening stages, and lined up much the same as they did at Altrincham in midweek. Although O’Halloran dropped out and Minihan returned from injury to make the bench.
PNE squandered two good chances in front of the Cheadle End, before County took the lead courtesy of new signing Jason Oswell.
Stephenson cut in from the right, and went down under a Huntington challenge, but the referee played on which allowed Oswell to slam home the opener, in off the post.
It wasn’t long until The Lillywhites were level and then ahead, giving the 400 travelling supporters something to cheer about. Robinson tapped in a Barkhuizen cross before the latter smashed one passed Hinchliffe after a lovely through ball from Johnson.
HT: County 1-2 Preston
Preston made ten changes to the second half whilst County made three. Ormson, Duxbury and Minihan brought on as Gannon sought to give game time to as many players as possible.
The second half produced less scoring opportunities for both sides, County coming close from Oswell and Thomas whilst Doyle and Hugill drew smart saves from Ormson.
Adam Thomas, George West, Adam Etches and Harry Brazel were all brought on in the latter stages as the game petered out in true pre-season style.
