Stockport County will take to the Edgeley Park field for the first time this pre-season as they face Championship side Preston North End on Saturday.
Preston will be in a period of transition after losing their manager Simon Grayson this summer to fellow Championship rivals Sunderland. Despite the Lancashire side acting quickly, with former Norwich City boss Alex Neil taking the helm at Deepdale, many supporters are expecting the club to take time to find footing with the new gaffer.
The Lillywhites are expected to name a strong side for the fixture, with the club returning from a pre-season trip to Ireland today (Friday). Hatters supporters may get the chance to see former defender Paul Huntington, who has featured heavily at the back for North End since 2014. Other players to watch out for will include Dutch play-maker Melle Meulensteen and striker Jordan Hugill, with both players scoring in the 70 rout of Bamber Bridge last week.
County will name another strong team as they face their toughest pre-season test so far. As has happened in the past against the stronger teams, it’s likely that manager Jim Gannon will use the fixture as an opportunity to test his best XI, with minimal substitutions taking place.
Sam Minihan is expected to return after suffering from a slight injury last week in training, and with the squad having no other known injury problems, County supporters can cast their eye over the full 19-man squad.
County will be taking to the field in their new alternate away strip, sponsored by Robinson’s Brewery.
The game will be taking place at Edgeley Park, with the Cheadle End and Main Stand open to County supporters and the Railway End in use for away supporters.
