Only 13 years ago, Telford United FC were liquidated with debts of 4 million after finishing 12th in the Conference North. Fortunately, the newly reformed AFC Telford United, which started life in the Northern Division 1 (Tier 8), took to life like a duck to water and made it to the National League Premier only four years ago.
Disappointingly, their position in the country’s top division of non league only lasted a season and they have been struggling in the NLN for the past two seasons. Finishing 18th in 2016 and 17th in 2017 after a succession of managers and players. They look ahead to the new season with renewed optimism and have made a number of positive signings, including former County striker John Marsden, who made several appearances for them at the end of last season on loan.
The New Bucks Head stadium is only 13 years old and was originally built for the former Telford United. It’s a smart little ground and is capable of a decent atmosphere on its day, something which County fans will be aware of after their 1-0 win there two years ago under Neil Young.
