The National League North is the sixth tier of English football and the first regionalised tier in the country. The league was founded in 2004 and contains 22 teams with clubs vying for two promotion spots and aiming to avoid one of the three relegation places.
Promotion from the division will result in a place in the National League Premier, whilst relegation means teams will be playing in the Northern/Southern Premier League division.
Teams in the division take part in two other national competitions (the FA Cup and the FA Trophy) as well as any regional competitions like the Cheshire Senior Cup.
