The stage is set this Saturday at Edgeley Park as Stockport County take on high flyers- Kidderminster Harriers, after a flawless October for the Hatters and a recent 1-0 win over Chorley last Saturday, County look to make it five wins in five games.
Kidderminster Harriers who formed in 1886, Nicknamed, The Reds, struggled last season and were consequently relegated from the National League finishing 23rd. This year, the tables have turned-quite literally, as the Harriers look to bounce back to the fifth tier of English football, they currently sit fifth in the National League North.
As well as their solid start in the league, Kidderminster have also had a superb cup run which has taken them to the first-round proper, facing Blackpool at Bloomfield Road after beating Weymouth 6-0 in the previous round.
The last time the two teams met was during that fateful day in 2013, with Stockport County being beaten 4-0 at the Aggborough stadium to condemn them to the conference north. Three years on and just four points separate the two sides. However, if County want to extend their impressive run in October, they’ll have to be very much on form. Kidderminster have been strong on the road this season, only losing one of their last seven games on their travels.
Earlier this week, I spoke to lifelong Kidderminster Harriers fan, Mark French, I asked him some questions regarding Kidderminster Harriers and the game against Stockport County this coming Saturday, he said “I’m more than pleased with 5th place after 15 games played. The future’s bright these days at Kiddy with our young squad. I realistically expect at least a play-off place so anywhere in the top 5!”. On the match itself, Mark added “I’m expecting a very tough and competitive game at Edgeley Park, I’m not willing to risk a match prediction”. Mark’s greatest moment as a Kidderminster fan was winning the league and gaining promotion to the Football League In 2000.
What can we expect this Saturday? Guaranteed goals and a great game of Football as two top half table teams battle it out in attempt for a play-off place. Certainly, not one to miss! Let’s get behind the players and staff at County and keep that buzz at Edgeley Park similar to that which we’ve seen in recent weeks. Let’s here the roar of Jimmy Gannon’s blue and white army ring across the stadium as we take on Kidderminster Harriers.
