FA Cup: County vs Salford

Stockport County entertain Salford City tomorrow as both sides go head to head in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying round.

The match represents the first time the two outfits have met in any competition, albeit the two sides are set to meet again on 8th of October with County’s demise to the Conference North and Salford’s rise backed by ex Manchester United Stars that include the Neville Brothers, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.

Salford’s joint Mangers- Antony Johnson and Bernard Morley, often described as ‘firm but fair’, will look for another good cup campaign this year after a fantastic run last year, beating EFL side Notts County 2-0 on home soil. The Ammies were then drew to Hartlepool Town, drawing 1-1 and taking it to a replay, the second leg proved to be too much to ask losing 2-0 in what was their best FA Cup run, to this date.

Jim Gannon, you could also call ‘firm but fair’ is no pushover either when it comes to Cups, he recently won silverware with the Hatters beating Tranmere Rovers In the Cheshire Senior Cup final. Gannon also took Northwitch Victoria to the 2nd round proper, falling short to Northampton Town 3-2.

With both teams doing quite well this season, Salford currently 8th and County currently 11th, it will be a real battle for both teams for a place in the next round. The prize? £7.500 and a place in the 4th Round qualifying.

In terms of team news, County will be without Scott Duxbury so new signing Max Cartwright goes straight into the starting 11.

Get down to Edgeley Park on Saturday and support the Blues as Jim Gannon’s boys looks to move forward in the competition. With the promise of Goals, lets hope County are on the right end!

Come on COUNTY!
