Match Preview: County vs Boston

Intro:

The first game of the season is nearly upon us and in all the time that County have been in non-league football, I don’t think the expectation and the excitement has been quite as high as it has been. That excitement will most likely be reflected in the attendance at Edgeley Park, as it looks likely that the 3317 that witnessed the horrific 4-1 loss 2 seasons ago on the opening day of the season will be eclipsed.

As far as opponents go in this division, they don’t get too much tougher than Boston. Since manager Dennis Greene took over in 2013, the Pilgrims have been on a trajectory which has seen them improve their positioning in the division each year. The Lincolnshire outfit were actually only seconds away from reaching the play-off final last year; Only a last ditch wonder goal for Chorley denied their passage.

The game on Saturday will also see a return to Edgeley Park for Carl Piergianni, and on last season’s performances, one of the best defenders in the division and also Boston’s player of the year.

Team News:

It’s anybody’s guess as to which team Neil Young will put out this weekend, but if it’s anything like pre-season then you can expect Hurst to start in goal, with a back four which involves a combination of Ellison, O’Hanlon, Thorniley (on loan from Everton). Duxbury actually started the last pre-season game against GAP but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be replaced by Gareth Roberts, who wasn’t in the squad last Saturday. Up top, it’s likely that Odejayi, Baggie and Gonzales will also play some part, having been present in every friendly since signing for the Hatters.
