Match Preview: County vs FC Halifax Town

Intro:

County host Halifax Town on Saturday in their first home friendly of the pre-season schedule. The Shaymen currently play in the 5th tier of English football and will most likely be the toughest test for Neil Young’s Hatters so far in this pre-season.

History:

Many of us will know that Halifax Town AFC hold the record for the biggest football league defeat (13-0 vs The Hatters). But the new Halifax, formed in 2008, have had nothing but sustained success since their formation 7 years ago. County haven’t played FC Halifax Town in a competitive fixture, Town actually got promoted from the conference north the year we got relegated to it. But in terms of friendly fixtures, the two teams met only a couple of years ago during Ian Bogie’s pre-season at The Shay, the game was fiercely contested but County ran out 3-1 winners, helped by a fantastic Kristian Dennis left footed volley. The Shaymen finished 9th in the Vanarama Conference last season, and will be aiming for play-offs at the very least next season.

Team News:

This fixture will be Hatters fans first chance to see both Kayode Odejayi and Captain Sean O’Hanlon in a County shirt (the new one for that matter), and the chance to see our 12 new players (and trialists) kick their first ball on the Edgeley Park pitch. Matt Glennon and Danny Hattersley will also make a return to Cheshire to play their former club, and County fans will get the chance to pay respects to two players who had decent spells at County during their time here. It promises to be an interesting and testing occasion for the Hatters.
