Danny Gregson has left County, moving to Liam Watson’s Stalybridge Celtic. From Neil Young’s point of view, this can be seen as a good bit of business. It was clear that the only reason Gregson was not on the list was because of his serious injury, and it would have been unfair to release a player at that stage. So the fact that Stalybridge have made an inquiry means Young is free to shape his defence without budget constraints wasted on injured players.
The County website says as much, mentioning that Celtic have ‘taken Gregson off County’s hands’, suggesting Danny was more of a hinderance than a help at this stage to our progress next season. Nevertheless, good luck to Danny in the future, it’s clear he’s a talented defender and if he can stay injury free there’s no doubt he’d play at a higher level if he wanted to.
