In a rare bit of decent communication on the club website, it was revealed that no less than 6 contracted players had been listed. This comes off the back of the news that Chris Sharp, Jordan Fagbola, Scott Spencer, Tunji Moses, Kyle Jacobs and jordan Lazenbury have all left the club at the end of their contracts.
Danny Glover, Scott Duxbury, Bobby Lofthouse, Chris Churchman, Mark Lees and Kristian Dennis have all been offered to other clubs permanently or on loan. There are a few surprising names on that list, but Young said an overhaul was needed and an overhaul is exactly what we’re getting.
It’s worth pointing out that at this point the players have not left the club, and it does not mean that they have no future at the club. Certainly, Niel Young appears to have done his homework on the club, but who’s to say that if the listed players are still here in July, when Pre-Season starts, that they won’t be able to impress the manager.
Danny Hurst and Danny Gregson have been retained. I’d definitely have picked these two to stay. I certainly feel that a few players on the transfer list could have been given an extra chance, especially considering they are contracted anyway. Young noted that the players were extremely disappointed upon being told the news.
As a County fan, I’ve seen overhaul before. It seems more often than not the majority of the squad has been changed in the close season over the past 5/6 years. And, more often than not, this change has resulted in more mediocre players and poor starts. Whether this will be different in the coming season remains to be seen.
